Noble Houses

The more prestige a Noble has, the more farmers he will manage for you. The current theory is that each Townhouse upgrade increases that Noble's prestige the same way the palace does for you, but no one's yet studied this in detail enough to assign hard numbers. The only things you can control are:

Build Nursery so they can have a garden.
Build Mastabas reserved for Noble families only.
Build a Cult Temple so they can add family shrines.
Supply shipwright with cedar to make yachts.

while the rest they do on their own as they have money. Adding a Mastaba for Nobles before they've finished their other upgrade options first may slow their growth, since they pay annual Mastaba maintenance fees.

In Practice, Adding a Nursery and building a reserved Mastaba for each household is enough to max out each Noble.

Pools with green water are a sign the Noble is unhappy.
Blue water is good.

Townhouse layouts

There are 3 kinds of Noble Townhouses layouts. They are easiest to distinguish by their garden type. On the Resources List the three wines are listed as distinct:

All the wine is consumed at home though and no one's seen it make its way off estate, but it does appear to boost health and so reduce the number of doctors visits Nobles make. In practice the three layouts of Townhomes work exactly the same, but provide welcome visual variety. Allegedly deep within an internal equation having a monkey increases the fruit picked a small percentage, which increases wine production (and so health) even tiny smudge more.

Nobles without gardens may not be able to hold parties.
